Occult83
Through serendipity, I was able to find a client who wanted help building the brand of the store he just bought in Detroit: the last remaining video rental store in MIchigan. Talking to him and researching local trends, especially ones moving toward Y2K-era style and designs with a more minimalist, vintage look, I helped create the Occult83 brand. Oh, and it also is a fetish shop for gear and kinks.
Occult83 Logo
The client asked for a logo that would reflect the Y2K spirit with the full business name. They wanted a font that wasn't perfectly aligned and able to be placed on the front of a building. I designed this with the DVD shape as the O of Occult to harken to the video rental store asthetic, which was my proudest part of this design.
Brand Guide
This is the finalized Brand Guide for Occult83. The color scheme, design, gradients, title, patterns, and example images were all created step-by-step with the client.
Experimenting Phase
In order ot try and really assess the vibe the client was looking for, I created some logo concepts. Logos are the cornerstone of a brand's identity. This is when I play around and then ask the client to give me first thoughts/reactions. What stands out. What feels right with their vision.
Grand Opening
In the end, it was awesome seeing a logo I ideated, designed, and finalized be put on the business's front exterior. And now I will always be part of the history and lore of the last video rental store in Michigan.
